New York City is the Hospitality capital of the world. Andrew Rigie, Executive Director of the New York City Hospitality Alliance has some ideas on how to save the industry reeling from Covid19 shutdowns. Andrew heads up an association representing restaurants and nightlife venues throughout the five boroughs of New York. Andrew was born into the hospitality business, working at his family’s third generation bakery in Queens, NY. He later “got his apron dirty” by working multiple positions within the industry before joining the New York State Restaurant Association in 2004. In 2009, Andrew took the helm of the 80+ year old Association's New York City operations as its Executive Vice President. He became the founding Executive Director who launched the independent New York City Hospitality Alliance in 2012. Since then, The Alliance has grown into a premier organization delivering information, education, services and representing thousands of restaurants and nightlife venues in the halls of government and in the media. In addition to his executive duties, Andrew serves on multiple advisory boards. He is Chair of New York City’s Office of Nightlife Advisory Board and Vice Chair of Community Board 7 (Manhattan). He is a vocal industry advocate, public speaker, frequent panellist and moderator, host of Hospitality & Politics podcast, Forbes and Total Food Service News contributing author and commentator on local, national and international media platforms. City & State listed Andrew on their 40 Under 40 list of “Rising Stars: Next Generation of Political Leaders, as did Hunter College with their Stars in NYC Food Policy recognition." Andrew is a graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education in Manhattan.
In Australia, Victoria has a Government lurching from one crisis to another. How do we fix things if the same people are in charge? Sanjeev Sabhlok says sack the Mathematical Epidemiologists and return to the plan that's already in place. Since March 2001, Sanjeev held roles in the Victorian Government and more recently as an economist in the Department of Treasury and Finance. Sanjeev resigned from his Treasury role on 10 September 2020 to protest the “outrageous violations of liberty and good policy by the Daniel Andrews government.” Before settling in Australia, Sanjeev held senior roles in the Indian Administrative Service. He holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Southern California.
